Rubber seal with high vacuum sealing technology

As we all know, vacuum is inseparable from a good seal. Vacuum sealing technology is an important means to ensure the vacuum of the system. Common vacuum sealing technologies include rubber sealing , magnetic fluid sealing, adhesive sealing, metal sealing and so on. Let us briefly understand the vacuum rubber seal.

Vacuum rubber seal.

The rubber used in the vacuum system includes vulcanized rubber made of natural latex, synthetic rubber (including butyl, chloro-based, and nitrile rubber), silicone rubber, and fluorine rubber.

To solve the vacuum rubber seal, in addition to the correct seal structure design, it is also important to select the seal material reasonably. The main factors that affect the vacuum seal are the heat resistance, pressure deformation resistance, air leakage rate, air permeability, outgassing rate, and sublimation (weight loss) of rubber.

Heat resistance. In a vacuum system, an exhaust system or components are usually required, which is completed by baking, and the rubber seal needs corresponding heat resistance to ensure the smooth progress of the baking and exhaust. Generally, the baking temperature is below 120°C and the vacuum degree is 10-5Pa. The baking temperature of butyl or nitrile rubber can be higher. When working in a very high vacuum environment, fluorine rubber is required.

Resistance to compression deformation. In the vacuum system, a large number of vacuum seals work in a compressed state. In order to make the seal have the reliability of the seal while maintaining the corresponding seal life, the vacuum seal rubber has a small compression deformation value (recommended below 35%), and at the same time has a slower compression stress relaxation degree (that is, a large compression stress relaxation coefficient ), the vacuum seal has a higher life

Leak rate. According to experience and calculation, in the vacuum system, when the pumping speed of the vacuum pump is 8000L/s, the vacuum degree of 5×10-7Pa should be maintained, and the air leakage rate of rubber should not be greater than 5.25×10-3Pacm3/s.
